On a cold, damp, foggy winter night in London England. Rob Hart was walking home from work. After 6 years of sailing around the world in Barbarossa, his life’s dream was gone. When, by pure chance he bumped into an old school chum. Over a pint of Beer in the “Hatchett” pub, Rob learnt of his friend’s recent voyage in his catamaran, across the Atlantic and through the Great Lakes of America. Roy said “ You could do that trip in Barbarossa” . So begun, “ Barbarossa The American Dream”. That night Rob started to sell the idea to Su his wife of 29 years. After winning her over it took three year’s to refit the Barbarossa and plan the voyage. July 2005 Rob and Su set sail from Benfleet Creek England on the first part of The American Dream, South to Spain, Gibraltar and Canary Island’s across the Atlantic Ocean to the West Indies, sailing North to the United States and motoring through the Rivers , Creek’s and Canal’s of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway to Chesapeake Bay and up the Potomac River to Washington D.C.
